Updated July 25, 2018 09:07:25Samsung is getting ready to announce the Galaxy S9.
The smartphone is set to be released on August 15 and it will be the first Samsung device to have a 4K display.
But the company has announced that it is also planning to introduce a digital camera app for its Galaxy S7 and S7 edge.
“When the Samsung flagship smartphone hits the market, you will be able to get all the best cameras,” Samsung said in a post on its official blog on Tuesday.
“In the future, we plan to introduce an app that will allow users to capture and upload their photos to social networks, like Facebook and Twitter.”
The app will be available for both Android and iOS and will include “a dedicated selfie mode”, a “digital image editor” and a “social network” feature.
Samsung’s announcement comes a day after the company said it had acquired Instagram, a photo-sharing app that has over 1.5 billion active users.
Instagram has also acquired Oculus VR, a virtual reality studio that has attracted the attention of the likes of Elon Musk, Steve Jobs and many other prominent tech luminaries.
Earlier this year, Samsung launched the Samsung Gear VR headset that was priced at $350 and sold out within days.
The company’s announcement follows the news that Apple had already unveiled the iPhone X, the first major smartphone to be available with a 4:3 display.
The iPhone X will feature a 12.3-inch screen and the new phone will be released in November.
